Our Lodge

Lodge Activities

Experience the rich culture of the Mountain Dene in the Dehcho. Learn from a Dene elder at our cultural camp beside the lodge. Learn how the Dene dry and smoke meat and fish in the traditional way. There’s a traditional teepee and smokehouse to explore and native tools, artifacts and fossils gathered from the area.

We offer excellent fishing (catch and release), hiking, boating, canoeing, birding and wildlife viewing. Wildlife in the area includes mountain grizzly, moose, whistling swans, black bear, woodland caribou, Dall’s sheep, mountain goats, bald eagles and many other raptors. Take to our trails with a certified guide, and marvel at the mountain vistas. Or swim in our sun-warmed lake. Our packages include full use of all lodge facilities, including the sauna, hot tub, 16-foot boats with motor and gas, canoes, kayaks, paddleboards, and safety gear.

Bring your camera, sunscreen, bug dope and spare jacket and escape from the everyday at North Nahanni Naturalist Lodge.

All packages include return transportation from Fort Simpson. Options include travel by air or by jet boat in summer, depending on water levels. The jet boat travels down the Mackenzie and up the North Nahanni and Tecetla rivers, between towering mountains. The last leg of this trip is a one-hour hike through a mountain gap to the lodge. Elders, small children and your baggage can travel by ATV. In winter, guests can travel one way along a traditional trap line, by snowmobile.
